Web Summit: Night Summit Continues

The moon is out when I pass that wonderful view from the metro between Bela Vista and Olaias. It’s difficult to capture on a smartphone so you’ll have to take my word for it.

Another beautiful Lisbon day that I spent inside. At least this one was brisk and windy.
I’m looking forward to the Night Summit meetup tonight, now I know what to expect.
I pop into the corner shop by my hotel to get food for dinner and end up buying three cans of Monster and a packet of Oreos like I’m some kind of horrible gremlin.

I have two options for tonight. There’s the official LGBTQIA+ meet, advertised on Web Summit’s app, at a cocktail and oyster bar called Imprensa. There’s also an unofficial event advertised in the “LGBTQ+ Web Summit” WhatsApp group I was added to last night.
The latter event is being used to advertise an app called The Queer Spot, which is one of the startups at Web Summit. The venue, Late Birds, is tagged “daddies” on The Queer Spot.
That’s a little offputting and I initially head to the official meetup at Imprensa.
Imprensa has the same issue as last night. Three different meetups in the same bar. The place is packed to the point where people are waiting outside in the street to be let in.
I chat with a group mostly comprised of straight women, one of whom, so far as I can tell, is looking for ways to market the rebrand of her company’s NOS canisters.
I eventually get tired of standing in the street and head to Late Birds.
The event basically seems like a party in a rich dude’s house. There’s a live DJ but the music vibe is mostly undanceable and the sound system is miserable so the indoor area is a sensory hell.
There’s a cool rooftop area too though which has a pool (albeit one that no one’s using because of the cold) and a fire pit.
I have a few enjoyable conversations out here.
Don’t get me wrong here: the party isn’t good enough to keep me from splitting at 11. I expected much worse though. Tags:
